Children raised with the absence of paternal role tend to face psychological challenges, which may prevent their ability to develop their idemtity and the capacity to establish healthy social relationship. A father who serves as qawwam in the family, is expected to protect, educate, and responsible towards his family, especially to play role to educate their children. This study is aimed to examine how Mutawalli Asy-Sya’rawi interprets the concept of qawwam, as well as to discuss how Asy-Sya’rawi view of the qawwam relates to the phenomenon of fatherlessness. This research is classified as qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical method. The approaches used are tafsir maudhu’i and conceptual approach. The data used in this study is devided into primary, secondary, and tertiary that collected trough the library research methods. The results show that Asy-Sya’rawi defines a qawwam not only as a leader, caretaker, and protector, but also as an educator within the family. The concept of qawwam is not limited into a form of male domination towards his wife, but also includes a father’s responsibility towards his children, and an brother’s responsibility towards his sister. A father who fulfills his role as a qawwam with full of awareness to his accountability to Allah will also contribute to the children’s education, thereby reducing the likehood of the childrens experiencing a fatherless situation. The role of qawwam is not limited to the biological father, because if the father has passed away, his role can be replaced by the grandfather or parental uncle, just as Prophet Muhammad, who, although born as an orphan, was not in a fatherless situation because he was cared for by his grandfather and uncle
2025-12-30T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Nailul Izza Nafisah, Ahmad Isnaeni, Budimansyah https://ejournal.iainkerinci.ac.id/index.php/takwil/article/view/6138 Hadith Dissemination in the Digital Space: Unraveling the Contradictions of the “Sweeping-the-Road Clothing” Hadith Matn on Instagram within the Indonesian Context 2025-12-24T21:42:44+07:00 Ach Faidi Rasyadi [email protected] Nopriani Hasibuan [email protected] Muhammad Habib Izzuddin Amin [email protected]
In the digital era, Instagram has become an influential space for the dissemination of Hadith, yet it is often trapped in rigid textual interpretations. The phenomenon of “sweeping-the-road clothing” (garments that trail until they touch the ground) for Muslim women has become a polemic as the ideality of the Hadith text clashes with the reality of infrastructure, hygiene, and transportation safety in Indonesia. This research aims to unravel the contradictions between the Hadith text (matn) regarding the recommendation to lengthen clothing and the reality of its application in digital public spaces, as well as to identify audience reception patterns toward such content. This study employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. Primary data are sourced from posts by the Instagram accounts @cahaya_peradaban, @mahasiswa.salaf, and @fiqihwanita_. The analysis uses Stuart Hall’s Encoding-Decoding reception theory to map the reading positions of netizens. Research findings reveal a misalignment of understanding caused by the dominance of literalism in the presentation of Hadith and the neglect of Indonesia’s geographical context, which is humid and carries a risk of wet impurity (najis). Netizen responses are categorized into three positions: 1) Dominant-hegemonic, where the Hadith is accepted textually as a standard of piety; 2) Negotiated, where the principle of covering the awrah is accepted but practical adaptations are sought, such as wearing socks; and 3) Oppositional, which rejects the application of the Hadith as it is considered irrelevant and hazardous to safety in the Indonesian environment. This study emphasizes the importance of contextualization and comprehensive Hadith commentary (sharh) in digital da’wah to ensure religious messages remain relevant, hygienic, and aligned with the principles of public interest (maslahah).
2025-12-30T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ach. This includes aspects of information in the social and religious fields. This transition creates a new horizon that must be included in the rapid flow of technology. Therefore, the distribution of religious messages through da'wah needs to be reconstructed so that the audience still gets fundamental implications. This study aims to see how the da'wah patterns of muslim influencers on social media can still influence the religious attitudes of generation Z in the era of disruption. Not stopping there, the study also touches on the message in Q. S. An-Nahl [16]: 125 through hermeneutic studies by Imam At-Thabari, Imam Al-Razy, Sayyid Qutb, Buya Hamka and Prof. Quraish Shihab as a guide to the ideal da'wah method for da'i and ulama in conveying their da'wah messages. Through qualitative methods, the study was designed using a library study approach. The findings of this study are that the da'wah method contained in Q. S. An-Nahl [16]: 125 is able to provide an expansive effect on the da'wah messages conveyed by religious influencers through social media. Three methods that comprehensively influence the da'wah carried out are the bil hikmah method (verses of the Koran), the bil mau'idhoh hasanah method (good advice) and the bil mujjadallah method (discussion, debate, dialogue). By using these three methods the audience will be more cooperative in accepting Islamic teachings
2025-12-30T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Ketrin Iryani, Abdul Fatah https://ejournal.iainkerinci.ac.id/index.php/takwil/article/view/5926 Reception of QS. This study aims to understand the factors that influence this behavior, with a focus on the reception of QS. Al-Baqarah verse 188 and QS. An-Nisā verse 29. The research method used is qualitative through field studies, which involve observation and interviews with mahasantri. The results show that 33.33% of mahasantri engage in this behavior, with patterns of action such as using items and then returning them, or even not returning them at all. The contributing factors include lack of awareness, urgent circumstances, and bad habits. Although the majority of mahasantri understand that this action is prohibited by these verses, a small number believe that it can be justified in certain situations. The impact includes positive changes in social interactions, with increased awareness of the importance of respecting the property rights of others and collective efforts to prevent violations. This study emphasizes the need for further education on the ethics of using items and the more effective application of the teachings of the Qur'an in daily life. Thus, a deeper understanding of this prohibition can contribute to the formation of a better character of respecting the property rights of others among mahasantri.

2026-01-20T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Siti Hotiza, Ni’matuz Zuhrah, Danial https://ejournal.iainkerinci.ac.id/index.php/takwil/article/view/6307 The Spiritual and Social Functions of Yasin Verses on the Night of Nisfu Sha‘ban: A Living Qur’an Analysis at the Jami‘ Al-Muttaqien Mosque, South Jakarta 2026-01-15T21:47:50+07:00 Izza Faizah Khaizarony [email protected] Kholilurrahman Kholilurrahman [email protected] Nurbaiti Nurbaiti [email protected] Eka Kurnia Firmansyah [email protected]
This study analyzes the spiritual and social functions of the practice of reading Surah Yasin on the night of Nishfu Sha'ban at the Al-Muttaqien Mosque in South Jakarta through the Living Qur'an approach and the perspective of the sociology of religion. This study aims to reveal the ritual structure, the meaning given by the congregation, the social functions, and the dynamics of religious legitimacy that accompany the continuity of this tradition. The findings indicate that the Yasinan ritual has been institutionalized. Thus, this study expands the Living Qur'an study by showing that the Qur'an in the context of the Nishfu Sha'ban ritual functions as a ritual social structure that organizes collective actions, frames the religious experiences of the congregation, and maintains the continuity of religious traditions through established social mechanisms as an annual collective practice passed down from generation to generation, with a relatively stable implementation structure from year to year. The congregation’s interpretation of Surah Yasin is rooted in beliefs regarding its virtues and strengthened by recurring spiritual experiences that foster tranquility and a sense of closeness to God. Moreover, the ritual plays a significant role in strengthening social cohesion, enhancing communal solidarity, and transmitting religious values to younger generations. Despite differing scholarly views on the authenticity of hadiths related to Nishfu Sha’ban, the community responds pragmatically by emphasizing the ritual’s social benefits and spiritual value. This study demonstrates that Yasinan is not merely a spiritual practice but also an adaptive social institution within urban Muslim society. The research opens pathways for further studies in other Muslim communities to better understand contemporary religious practices.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Izza Faizah Khaizarony, Kholilurrahman, Nurbaiti, Eka Kurnia Firmansyah https://ejournal.iainkerinci.ac.id/index.php/takwil/article/view/6152 Religious Freedom Theology in Q.S. Al-Baqarah (2): 256 and Its Implications for Interfaith Harmony in North Sulawesi 2026-01-02T20:08:35+07:00 Basri Saenong [email protected] Achmad Abubakar [email protected] Mardan Mardan [email protected]
This article aims to analyze the principle of religious freedom in the Qur'an, focusing on Q.S. Al-Baqarah verse 256, and its relevance as a theological basis for interfaith harmony in North Sulawesi. This study uses a library research method with a qualitative-descriptive approach based on thematic interpretation (mauhdu'i). The research data sources include primary data consisting of verses from the Qur'an, classical and contemporary interpretations. Sociological analysis is used as an interpretive approach, utilizing the theories of Peter L. Berger and José Casanova to examine the relationship between theological principles and social practices of diversity. The results of the study show that the verse "la ikraha fi al-din" is not merely an affirmation of freedom to choose a religion, but also a manifestation of spiritual freedom that underlies social harmony in a pluralistic society. In the context of North Sulawesi, the value of religious freedom is reflected through the practices of dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation among religious communities that flourish thanks to the local wisdom of mapalus as a symbol of communal solidarity. The findings of this study confirm that freedom of religion is not only related to theological aspects, but also functions as an instrument of social development, affirmation of national identity, and strengthening of humanitarian ethics in Indonesia's multicultural life.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Basri Saenong, Achmad Abubakar, Mardan https://ejournal.iainkerinci.ac.id/index.php/takwil/article/view/6095 The Role of Al-‘Afw in Mitigating the Culture of Public Punishment (Cancel Culture) a Contextual Study of At-Tabari’s Interpretation of QS. Ali-Imran: 134, focusing on the verse by offering an ethical response to the practice of cancel culture. This study uses a qualitative method through library research on the text of the Qur'an, At-Tabari's interpretation of Jami' al-Bayan, and contemporary scientific literature on cancel culture. The results of the study indicate that cancel culture can cause social problems in the form of ostracism and public punishment that are often carried out without providing space for clarification and forgiveness. Therefore, mitigation of cancel culture can be done by prioritizing the value of forgiveness that opens up space for social reconciliation, avoiding intolerant attitudes, and building harmony and civilized social justice. In this context, Islamic teachings through QS. Ali-Imran: 134, as interpreted by At-Tabari, emphasize the importance of the value of forgiveness (Al-'Afin) and restraining anger as an attitude to reduce destructive cancel culture. This study emphasizes the importance of building a culture of forgiveness in modern digital society to create a more just, empathetic, and civilized social harmony. Based on this overarching finding, the study aims to examine the construction of the sea as a symbol in both sacred texts, to trace their similarities and differences through an intertextual lens, and to elucidate the symbolic relationship between the sea, humanity, and God within the two religious traditions. This research employs a qualitative, library-based methodology with a descriptive-analytical approach. Julia Kristeva’s intertextual theory is applied to compare narratives and representations of the sea in the Qur’an and the Bible, emphasizing the dialogical interaction between religious texts. The findings demonstrate that, despite emerging from distinct theological and historical contexts, both scriptures exhibit similar symbolic patterns in their interpretation of the sea. The sea is depicted as a space of inner darkness and moral disorder, as well as a sign of divine power that transcends human rationality. Consequently, this study contributes to the advancement of comparative religious discourse and broadens symbolic understanding in scriptural studies, particularly regarding the relationship between God, humanity, and nature.
2025-12-30T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 Riska Wahyuni, Ermaya Zunita Aprilia, Elok Atika, Muhammad Tubagus Soleh Tammimi, Muhammad Ghifary Ramadhani Mallo
