Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of organic and inorganic waste sorting and its impact on the development of environmental care character among early childhood children at Arunavidya Kindergarten. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, and students as research participants. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that waste sorting was implemented through daily habituation activities, the provision of separate waste bins, classroom cleaning duties, waste collection activities within the school environment, and continuous teacher guidance. The program positively contributed to the development of children's environmental care character, as reflected in their ability to dispose of waste according to its category, maintain classroom cleanliness, pick up litter, and remind peers to throw waste in the proper place. This study concludes that waste sorting can serve as an effective environmental-based learning strategy for fostering environmental care character in early childhood.
