This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of acculturation between local culture and Islam in the Kerinci region—known as *Bumi Sakti Alam Kerinci*—employing a historiographical approach and a case study on the management of historical artifacts at the *Sanggar Seni Ilok Rupo* Museum in Sungai Penuh City, Jambi. As an inland highland valley in Sumatra, Kerinci possesses a unique cultural character rooted in animistic-dynamistic beliefs and megalithic traditions, which subsequently evolved in harmony with Islamic teachings without compromising its original identity. This phenomenon is encapsulated in the traditional adage, *'Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah'* (Customs are founded upon Islamic Law, and Islamic Law is founded upon the Book of God), and is further internalized through the *'Living Al-Qur'an'* tradition and manuscripts written in the *Incung* script. The *Sanggar Seni Ilok Rupo* Museum—established by the renowned Kerinci cultural maestro, Iskandar Zakaria (1942–2018)—serves as a bastion for preserving the collective memory of cultural heritage, housing over 3,700 historical artifacts. This qualitative-historical research evaluates the strategic role of this private institution as a "living museum," a center for historical education, and a laboratory for scholarly inquiry. It also examines the challenges faced following the founder's passing, including funding crises and the complexities of collaboration with the local government. The findings underscore the necessity of revitalizing the management of such private museums by fostering deep emotional ties with the local community and integrating modern museological practices, thereby ensuring the continuity of cultural diplomacy and the preservation of Islamic heritage in the Kerinci highlands.
